Care and Maintenance
ROAC products are made to last a lifetime, but as with all leather products a little care and maintenance can go a long way in aiding the overall appearance and longevity of your leather. I recommend a few simple steps.
Regardless of whether it’s a fixed blade sheath, clip slip, or edc organizer, when first placing the tools in the leather pocket(s), take your time and make sure to push them all the way to the bottom. This might require a little force the first time. Once all the way to the bottom, let the tool sit a few hours to help the leather to “break-in” and mold around them. Don’t rush this process, setting the leather properly the first time will help it to age beautifully and provide a custom fit for your tools.
If the leather begins to dry, the color begins to fade, or it gets really scratched up – rub in some leather conditioner such as Obenaufs Heavy Duty LP. A good practice is to condition your leather once every 3-6 months depending on how dry your climate is, or how rough you are on your gear.
Things to avoid:
- Exposure to prolonged heavy rains or swimming
- Extended exposure to sun/heat
- Repeatedly holstering different tools in the same pocket, this will cause the leather to conform to a variety of different shapes/sizes and soften the overall tension of the pocket.
- Avoid placing a knife into a sheath that was not specifically designed for it, e.g. if the sheath is for a Bradford Guardian 3, don't put an ESEE Izula or a knife from a custom maker in the sheath. This voids any warranty, and will tear up the inside of the sheath over time.
