The B1 Compact is our shorter take on the classic butterfly knife pocket slip, designed specifically for compact balisongs such as the Benchmade Laro. At 4⅝ inches tall, it is a full inch shorter than our standard balisong slip, giving smaller knives a more proportionate and compact carry option without sacrificing retention or draw quality.

Designed Around the Draw

I've released a number of leather balisong sheaths over the years, and the B1 Compact is easily one of my favorites.

The clip cover is fully integrated into the construction of the sheath, creating a continuous panel of full-grain leather along the inside. This does more than simply keep your knife separated from the titanium clip and hardware. It creates a smooth, uninterrupted surface that guides the blade in and out of the sheath with just the right amount of controlled friction.

The result is a sheath that holds your knife securely while still giving you a clean, consistent draw every time.

That balance is something I pay particular attention to when making these. The sheath shouldn't simply retain the knife—it should feel good to use.

A Note on the Pocket Clip & Draw

The B1 Compact is designed to be drawn from the pocket together with the knife. It is not designed to remain clipped to the pocket during the draw.

There is an inherent tradeoff here: a sheath that stays firmly anchored to the pocket during a hard knife draw requires either extremely high clip tension or relatively light retention on the knife itself. We chose not to make that compromise.

Instead, the B1 Compact uses a comfortable, robust pocket clip paired with secure knife retention. The knife stays firmly seated in the sheath during carry, while the clip provides reliable everyday pocket carry without requiring excessive force to attach or remove.

In practical use, you simply draw the sheath and knife together, then separate the knife from the sheath once it is clear of the pocket.

This is intentional. The goal is a sheath that carries comfortably and holds your knife securely, rather than turning the pocket clip into a high-tension holster system.

Full-Grain Wickett & Craig Leather

The B1 Compact is made from full-grain, vegetable-tanned leather from Wickett & Craig, chosen for its durability, feel, and ability to develop character with use.

Each sheath is available in one of five carefully selected colors: Black, Brown, Chocolate, Olive, or Red.

As the sheath is carried and handled, the leather will gradually burnish and develop its own character. Areas that see the most contact will naturally become smoother and more polished, while the contours of your knife can subtly imprint themselves into the leather over time.

The result is a sheath that becomes increasingly personal with use—a little more worn-in, a little more yours, and uniquely shaped by the knife it carries.

A Note on the Titanium Clip

The 6AL-4V titanium pocket clip is designed for normal pocket carry.

To keep the clip performing properly, avoid clipping it onto belts or unusually thick materials that can stretch the clip beyond its intended range. Most pocket material is well under ⅛ inch thick, so when used as designed, the clip is exceptionally robust and built for years of reliable service.
